Fitness Center

The Charlotte Avenue Branch YMCA offers a variety of fitness equipment. The large fitness center is located downstairs. It is fully equipped including Magnum weight machines, free weights, treadmills, stair climbers, recumbent bikes, and cross trainers. Additional cardiovascular equipment is located upstairs on the walking track and in the small fitness area next to the group fitness room.

Personal Training

Add some personal training sessions as a way to boost your workout! Our trainers have a variety of programs to meet your needs and get the results you are looking for! For more information on pricing, or to book an appointment, contact the personal training office at extension 262.

Fitness Center Orientations

Fitness Center orientations with a certified strength trainer or personal trainer are available free of charge. We provide a safe, effective, easy-to-understand, personalized workout program. All children must be 15 or older to use the weights unless they have completed the youth strength training course for ages 12-14. Call to set up an appointment (803-329-9622).

Handball/Racquetball

Included in regional YMCA membership is use of the handball and racquetball courts at the Charlotte Avenue Branch YMCA. Two first-class courts are available. Call after 9 am on the day of play to reserve a court for one hour. On Friday, reservations may be made for the weekend. The YMCA Board of Directors and staff urge all players to wear protective eye guards.

Fitness Classes

Certified exercise instructors teach all fitness classes. All aerobics classes contain cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility exercises. (The durations and intensity of each depends on the class description.) Call 329-YMCA for times and locations of classes, pick up a monthly schedule at the front desk, or view the fitness schedule and class descriptions here.

Cycling Classes

Check out the fitness class schedule for cycling classes. Instructors integrate road-bike techniques into indoor, class formats on stationary bikes. Complete with music and visualization techniques, these classes take groups on an imaginary ride providing an outstanding fitness workout.
