Karate

The York YMCA offers karate classes twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday from 7:15pm-8:30pm for ages 9 and up. The cost per month is $35 for members and $50 for non Y-Members. If you're unsure martial arts is for you, stop by during the class time and watch. Visitors and questions are ALWAYS welcome!

The York YMCA is proud to have Sensei Stephen Bevil as the karate and self defense instructor at our branch. He holds a 5th degree black belt in Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Karate.

Sensei Bevil began training in Shorin-Ryu Karate in 1972 in New York City, New York. He studied under the direction of Master Ansei Ueshiro, from Okinawa, Japan. Mr. Bevil has been a dedicated instructor of Karate and self-defense and has operated Dojo's in Long Island, New York and Merrirtt Island, Florida.

York YMCA staff member Eric Colley acts as Sempai (assistant instructor) to Sensei Bevil. Mr. Colley studied Tae Kwon Do for 6 years in Lumberton, North Carolina under David Smith, of Smith's Tae Kwon Do Academy. He currently holds a Red Belt in Tae Kwon Do and is now training under Sensei Bevil for his black belt.

Summer Camp 2008

Cost: Members $825 Non members $925
Cost for the Summer (10-11 weeks)
Summer Camp begins Monday, June 9th and lasts until the day before York school district students return to school. There is a non-refundable deposit of $175 per child upon registration. The remaining balance is due by the first day of Day Camp. Activities planned for day Camp include the following: swimming, arts & crafts, gym games, character development, movies, outside play, parks, field trips, and lots of fun!

Adventure Club 2008

Ages 11-14 (Must be entering the 6th grade)
Cost: Members $925 Non members $1025
Cost for the Summer (10-11 weeks)

planned for Adventure club include the following: swimming, crafts, sports, an overnight trip, weekly trips to Carowinds (cost of season pass included), movies, character development, water park, bowling and other fun trips.
