Camp Cherokee A+ Camper Award
The Camp Cherokee A+ Camper Award allows the Y to offer scholarships for children who might not otherwise be able to experience the natural beauty and experiential learning of our summer resident camp, located in King’s Mountain State Park. Since 2009, the A+ Camper Program provides an incentive for students recognized for improvements in academics, attendance and attitude.
The setting for the Upper Palmetto YMCA’s summer resident camp since 1946, Camp Cherokee is surrounded by 7,000 lush acres of beautiful forest and a 76-acre lake, Lake York. More than 900 children each summer create lasting friendships and memories at Camp Cherokee.
In 2009, 28 campers from local school districts were able to attend camp free of charge thanks to the A+ Camper Program. In 2010, through the support of our friends in the community, we increased this program by eight kids, allowing 36 students to receive the award.
Please help us continue to enrich the lives of deserving children by supporting the A+ Camper Program. Learn more about ways you can help.
