Free Basketball Camp

Free Basketball Camp

Ages: 7 – 17

Former Winthrop men’s basketball standout Pierre Wooten is hosting a free basketball camp May 31 at the Charlotte Avenue YMCA. Winthrop fans will remember Wooten as a member of four Big South Conference championship teams from 1999 to 2003. He played professionally in Europe for 10 years and is a member of Winthrop’s athletic hall of fame.

The event will run from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and is free of charge thanks to several sponsors, including Carolina Retirement and Estate Planning, R&J or Carolinas, LLC, Cherry Auto Sales, Classic Achievements, Heroic Fitness Transformation Station and Papa John’s.

TRX Small Group Training

Debbie Rast, a certified Personal Trainer, Strength Trainer/TRX Certified Trainer will take you through a 50 minute TRX circuit workout! TRX is suspension Training! Core, balance, stability, flexibility, functional training altogether work different planes of your body for optimal results.

Lifeguard Course

Ages: 15+

This is a 3 day course to certify lifeguards. Applicant must be able to swim a 300m, swim a 25m, and retrieve a 10lb. brick off the bottom of the pool and swim back with the brick.

Cost:
$200 Member | $250 Non-members

Working with Bobby Isom, participants will improve on ball handling, shooting, passing, defense, agility, and basketball knowledge.

GRA-Y Football

Ages: 11-12

GRA-Y Football is a co-ed competitive league intended for kids age 11-12.  Participants will play for the school they attend or live closest to.  All participants must have birth certificates and proof of residence (report card) in order to register. Participants cannot turn 13 before September 1, 2015.

Season Dates:
Practice begins August 4 and games continue through December 1, 2015.

Ages: 5-12

Build confidence, friendships and have a great time by participating in YMCA Cheerleading.  All ages of Youth Cheer (Small Fry, Pee Wee and Gra-Y Cheer) are now organized under the same umbrella, the UPYMCA.  Questions? Youth Strength Training

Ages:  10-14

This program is designed to inform and assist our Y Family Youth ages 10-14.  A two hour orientation is given by a Personal Trainer and a strength program is designed to fit the youth’s physical needs.
