Young Rembrandts Elementary Drawing

Young Rembrandts was created to be fun. This drawing class offers child-friendly and relevant subject matter to spark interest and increase knowledge retention, never losing sight that children learn best when they are engaged and entertained. Our drawing programs are based on an acclaimed, step-by-step drawing method that works hand-in-hand with original art curriculum developed by a team of educators and artists. Our multisensory approach to learning meets every child at their level. This 8 week class is geared toward elementary students and meets for one hour each week. Engineering for Kids: Electronic Game Design: Racing Games—Hydrocrafts

Prepare for some fast splashing fun as we use the Engineering Design Process to design and create our very own racing game to race our personally designed hydrocrafts! We will create a storyboard to identify and capture the rules of play and characters for our game, and then use Clickteam Fusion 2.5® to bring our storyboard to life with programming. At the end of the unit, everyone takes home a working Windows compatible game (Clickteam Fusion 2.5® does not support Mac or Android operating systems).

JumpBunch Super Hero Training Camp

This camp is all about training to be your favorite superhero! To be a super hero means having strength, agility, balance, and speed. We focus on learning special superhero training skills through fun games and activities such as “jumping over hot lava,” “dodging fireballs,” “lightsaber training,” “scooter flying,” “ghostbuster tag,” and so many more! Being a superhero also means having a compassion for society, a kind heart, and a willingness to do-good and help others. These are qualities we discuss and talk about with our campers. This camp really encourages campers to be a superhero in everyday life! We encourage everyone to wear appropriate fitness clothing/shoes, and to bring a water bottle and snack each day of camp. This summer, explore the mysterious world of Egypt with Young Rembrandts! We will spend five days digging into the wonderful world of ancient Egypt. We will investigate decorative objects in the treasured tombs including sarcophagi, hieroglyphics and more. We will create drawings full of artifacts and Egyptian imagery as well as cartoons using a variety of media including markers, color pencils, Sharpies™ and more. Our final day will consist of a large drawing using pastel chalk. All materials provided each day.

This camp focuses on teaching different sports each day. Every child will receive their own piece of equipment to practice their skills. Our highly-educated coaches will teach the fundamentals of a particular sport, while promoting teamwork and good sportsmanship. Some of the sports taught during this camp are basketball, football, lacrosse, tennis, volleyball, cross country running, track and field, golf, hockey, baseball/softball, handball, and badminton. Reading Giraffe

Reading Giraffe

Children naturally like to read. But they LOVE to read when stories come to life! Developed and hosted by local author (and coach) Derick Wilder, Reading Giraffe is the place where books run wild! We’ll  include some of the most creative and fun children’s stories, from the classics to popular present-day reads to Derick’s own works. We combine interactive read-aloud with spelling exercises, creative craft projects, mini-plays and energetic games, all based on the storylines and characters we read about. We will include a StoryWalk© behind the Complex, an exciting concept that combines a nature hike with reading a children’s story! Campers need to bring a drink, healthy snack, sneakers, sun block and a hat, as we will include some outdoor activities.

Our campers will play Olympic Games with an international focus! Kids will learn about and participate in Olympic Sports centering on the following countries: Australia, China, Italy, Brazil, Russia, Jamaica, Great Britain, Germany, and of course the USA! Some of the Olympic Sports taught include gymnastics, volleyball, field hockey, ice hockey, basketball, badminton, golf, track and field, football (soccer), tennis, and handball. Playball Sports Plus Camp

Summer is a time for running, jumping, splashing and fun! Throw in a healthy dose of castles and dragons, bats and rats, French fries and cookies, race cars and flying saucers and you get the Playball Sports*Plus Camp. Campers are introduced to a wide variety of sports each week, learning skills for football, basketball, baseball, kickball, soccer, tennis and volleyball. Camps are run by certified Playball coaches who supervise structured sporty activities, dry and wet (using splash balls) playground games and short, on-site nature walks. Camp Improv Comedy

It’s like a week of a family friendly “Whose Line is It Anyway?” Campers exercise their sense of play through improv games and exercises that are the foundations of many of life’s (personal and professional) most important lessons. Scott Pacitti, an 18- year improv comedy professional, will work with these young improvisers/comedians to help enhance their ability to communicate with others and develop confidence in their own creativity while working as part of an ensemble. No experience necessary. Camp will end with an improv comedy performance.

We heard you! You love the specialty camps but need full afternoon care also. We are offering the afternoon Stay & Play as a viable option to your child’s full day care. Take a specialty camp in the morning 9:00am-Noon (separate pricing) and we will make sure that your child transfers from that camp by staff and brought to Stay & Play. Activities will include gym time, pool time, outdoor play, games, arts and some special guests. Sign up for one week or all nine weeks. Children will need to pack a lunch each day along with bathing suit and towel. Space limited to 42 children each week.

Thank you for choosing Preschool at the Complex!  Our goal is to provide a safe, stimulating and fun environment for children to learn through participation.  We incorporate the Y’s core values: Honesty, Responsibility, Respect and Caring in our activities.   The Upper Palmetto YMCA is committed to providing the highest quality Preschool possible.  We are excited about the unique programming opportunities provided by our Preschool program. We strive to develop the whole child through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. This program offers quality, affordable preschool programming for children ages 3-5. Class space is limited.

Preschool Registration for the 2019-2020 school year will begin in January, 2019

January 23, 2019 – Current Students & Siblings can register at the Fort Mill Complex YMCA from 9:30am-11:30am

January 28, 2019 – Open Enrollment  … registration will be open to the public and will be held at the Fort Mill Complex YMCA from 9:30am – 11:30am

A non-refundable $125.00 registration fee will be due at the time of registration to ensure a spot in the program.  All children who enter the Preschool Program must turn 3 years old by September 1, 2019 for the three year old program and all children who enter the Preschool Program must turn 4 years old by September 1, 2019 for the four year old program.  All children must be completely potty trained and have up-to-date immunizations in order to be enrolled into the program.

Registration will be on a first come, first serve basis.  Anyone interested in registering their child must come to the Fort Mill Complex to enroll.

3-Year-Old Program
Classes introduce children to working within a group and develops fine and gross motor skills including socializing, sharing, cut-and-paste, numbers and alphabet recognition. (Children must turn three on or before September 1, 2019.)

4-Year-Old Program
Our four-year-old program prepares children for kindergarten on both a social and educational level. We will continue developing fine and gross motor skills, while putting emphasis on the alphabet, numbers and other kindergarten readiness skills. (Children must turn four on or before September 1, 2019.)

Payment Policy for 2019-2020 School Year
1) First and last month tuition is required prior to the start of school.
2) Remaining monthly payments need to be set up on our auto draft system. This can be done through a credit card or bank draft.

Auto draft will be required for the remainder of the monthly school year tuition which will be drafted on the first business day of each month beginning in September.

Facilities
The building is secure and access is monitored by staff during all hours of preschool operation. The program offers six classrooms, an outdoor natural playground, a preschool hiking trail and outdoor classroom and access to appropriate amenities within the Recreation Complex.

Preschool at the Complex is part of the Fort Mill Complex at the UPYMCA located at 971 Tom Hall Street, Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Inclement Weather Policy
When faced with potentially dangerous weather conditions, the Preschool at the Complex will follow the Fort Mill School District’s decision on closings. Information can be found on their website, www.fortmillschools.org, and on local news stations in Rock Hill and Charlotte – we are York County District 4.

If the FMSD should delay public school openings, Preschool at the Complex will open at its normal time of 9:00am. Public school delays may be found at the sources listed above.

Should inclement weather occur after preschool begins, we encourage parents to pick up their child as soon as possible.
