Strength Training for Women

Ages: 15 and up

This class is devoted to helping women learn the basics of weight lifting. Class participants need to devote 2 hours each week for 3 weeks to learn upper body, lower body and core excercises. Each participant will meet with a trainer in a small group on Wednesday afternoons or Saturday mornings for 3 weeks.

Metabolic Makeover Summer Program

Ages: 18 to 70

This comprehensive 8 week wellness program is perfect for the beginner or de-conditioned, but all levels are welcome! Metabolic Makeover will provide the basics of exercise with instruction on proper form and alignment for strength training and options on impact and modality for cardiovascular training. For those who are already fit, Metabolic Makeover will offer some variety and provide the necessary tools to constantly challenge themselves physically. Included is a full fitness assessment and body composition analysis. Clients will participate in 24 small group training sessions with a certified Metabolic Makeover trainer and will enjoy the built in group accountability and encouragement. Members are asked to maintain a daily food journal and will receive general nutritional guidance and advice.

The Metabolic Makeover Manual (included) and access to the Metabolic Makeover website will provide great information that will help clients make healthy lifestyle changes instead of quick fixes.

More Fun This Summer!  The Upper Palmetto YMCA summer camps provide activities that are educational, exciting and fun, but more importantly, it is an experience that builds self esteem, lasting friendships and treasured memories.

Our staff works diligently to help make participation in our program a positive experience. We to choose leaders who exemplify outstanding character, compassion and a love of children. Each staff member has received at least 20 hours of training, and is CPR and First-Aid certified.

Summer day camp is a full day program with activities including weekly themes, field trips, swimming, games, daily devotions, team building activities, arts and crafts, character development and much more!

Program Dates: June 9-August 15, 2014
Program Times: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 6:00 pm
Cost: Weekly
A limited amount of financial assistance is available. Please complete the application available at the YMCA Front Offices and allow 2-4 weeks for processing from the time of registration.

Summer Enrichment Program

Ages: 1st - 4th Graders

To assist in helping students maintain their academic edge, the YMCA is offering five weeks of small group tutoring. This course is lead by a certified instructor in the areas of math and reading. Contact Karen Isaac at the branch for more information.

All summer swim lesson sessions are Monday-Thursday for 2 weeks with Friday as a make-up day.

Parent-Tot classes are twice a week for an entire month totaling 8 classes.

Registration Opens: Monday, May 19th for all sessions. Registration closes the Friday before each session begins or when they are full.

Cost:

Weekday Session: $45/member $70/non-member

Saturday Session: $35/member $45/non-member

Parent-Child
6 months – 3 years old

Level 1- Introduction to the water and preparation for the Learn-to-Swim courses.  No prerequisites, but must be at least 6 months old to enroll.  Parent or caregiver must accompany child into the water and participate in the class.

Preschool
3-5 years old

Level 1- Orients preschool-age children to the aquatic environment and to help them acquire rudimentary level aquatic skills.
Level 2- Builds on the basic aquatic skills learned in Level 1.
Level 3- Increases proficiency and builds on the aquatic skills learned in Levels 1 and 2 by providing additional practice with increased distances and times.

Youth
6-13 years old

Learn-to-Swim Level 1- Develop positive attitudes, good swimming habits and safe practices in and around water.
Learn-to-Swim Level 2- Gives participants success with fundamental skills, including learning how to float without support and recover to vertical.
Learn-to-Swim Level 3- Builds on the skills in Level 2 by providing additonal guided practice in deeper water.
Learn-to-Swim Level 4- Develops participants’ confidence in the strokes learned in Level 3 and to improve other aquatic skills.


Challenger’s British Soccer Camp

Challenger’s British Soccer Camp

The camp will run Monday through Friday and each child will be coached by a member of Challenger’s British coaching staff flown to the USA exclusively to work on these programs.

Each camper will receive a FREE camp T-shirt, soccer ball, soccer poster, individual skills performance evaluation and free access to an educational soccer website.

“Video Game Challenge” Camp

Don’t just play games! Make them! Create your very own video game in this fun and stimulating camp for mini gamers. Design your very own Arcade or Platform game by exploring the principles of game design. Campers will be introduced to the principles of concept and storytelling through hands on project development and engineering. Campers will have the opportunity to design characters, objects, shapes, structures, and concepts all based on creativity. At the conclusion, campers will challenge each other with their own completed video game! All campers will receive a Video Challenge T-Shirt.

Ages: 3rd – 4th graders

Program Dates:  Aug 4– 8, 2014

Science & Engineering Fusion Camp

Campers will learn the principles of engineering with fusing the practicality and functionality of science. Campers will transform into Design and Mechanical Engineers while making cool projects and experimenting with science. Campers will make replica miniature robots and various structures while using their imagination to create fun and wacky projects. All campers will receive an Engineering and Science Fusion T-Shirt.

Ages: 1st  – 3rd graders

Program Dates:  July 21 – 25, 2014
