Youth Basketball

A 7 week basketball league for kids ages 9-17 years old. This is not a co-ed league, boys and girls are separated. Each team will practice one day a week and then have a game on Saturday, the boys U17 league (Ages 15-17) will play on Friday nights. Each league will end with a playoff at the end of the season. There will be an evaluation for this age group the week of December 10-15.

*Teams may not be requested. They will be put together based on the evaluations.

Log Rolling

Roll through the winter with the Log Rolling Club at the Baxter YMCA! All ages and skill levels welcome. Whether you are just giving it a try or a regular club member, you will be with certified log rolling instructors giving you all the coaching you need to progress your skills while having fun.

Triathlon Training: Sprint or Olympic

Triathlon Training: Sprint or Olympic

This is a triathlon training program designed to improve your running, swimming and cycling. This training will help prepare individuals for a Sprint or Olympic triathlon event. Swim and cycling experts will visit training sessions to provide additional guidance throughout the program. Participants will need to be able to swim 50 M without stopping, bike 10 miles and run at least 1.5 miles before beginning this training. There will be an informal meeting with the coach on February 5, 2019.

Karate

Our karate classes teach children respect, self-discipline, focus and how to lead a healthy lifestyle. The Fort Mill YMCA at the Complex has been providing Karate classes for over 30 years. Instructor, Charles Lingerfelt, holds the rank of Seventh Degree Black Belt. This program is offered in November and December.

Snowmobiling at Yellowstone

Snowmobiling at Yellowstone

We have two exciting snowmobile trips this year! Enjoy one or two days of snowmobiling in the forest surrounding West Yellowstone, Montana, and a one day guided tour into Yellowstone National Park in a “snow coach” or by snowmobile. You will see abundant wildlife including buffalo, elk, moose and more, and a winter wonderland of snow covered mountains and world famous geysers!

Ages Restrictions:
In order to drive a snowmobile, you must be 16 years of age and have a valid driver license. Any age may ride double with an adult.

Registration Dates:
Receive a $50 per person discount if you register before September 7, 2018.

Rock Steady Boxing Against Parkinson Disease

At Rock Steady the opponent is Parkinson’s disease. Rock Steady Boxing is a program designed to empower people with Parkinson’s disease to fight back using speed, muscular endurance, footwork and agility to defend against and overcome opponents. Diabetes Prevention Program

The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is a one-year, community-based program where participants work in small groups with a trained Lifestyle Coach in a relaxed, classroom setting. In 16 weekly sessions followed by 8 monthly sessions, participants learn how to incorporate healthier eating, moderate physical activity, and problem-solving and coping skills into their daily lives. Participants will get the hands-on support they need from Lifestyle Coaches trained on a CDC-approved curriculum that is part of the CDC-led National Diabetes Prevention Program.

“…programs like YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program reduce new cases of type 2 diabetes by 58% overall and 71% in individuals over age 60.” – research from the National Institutes of Health

After School

The Upper Palmetto YMCA is committed to providing the highest quality After School care possible. We are excited about the unique programming opportunities provided by our After School program. We incorporate the basic Christian values of honesty, responsibility, respect and caring in our activities. Our program is designed to enhance your child’s school day through activities such as homework support, field trips, large and small group games, devotions and singing.

We strive to develop the whole child through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all, including the following:

Healthy Spirit -We offer daily devotion time, and a group discussion time, where youth have the opportunity to reflect on their day, talk about issues and concerns impacting their lives. Youth also develop a stronger understanding of the core YMCA values of Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Caring.

Healthy Mind -We know how important homework time is. We provide a structured study room where youth have 30-45 minutes of homework time. Staff are on hand to support youth as they work on their assigments.

Healthy Body – In an effort to promote healthy living, the YMCA provides at least 30 minutes of daily fitness time. Activities may include:kickball game, team sports, relay races, group games, or yoga.

Transportation from school to the Fort Mill Branch YMCA is provided for your child for the following schools:

A limited amount of financial assistance is available. Please complete the application available at the YMCA Front Offices and allow 3-4 weeks for processing prior to the first day of enrollment.  After School Financial Assistance is applied during the After School/Summer Day Camp cycle beginning in August and ending the following August.

Home School PE

This program gives home school children the opportunity to explore a variety of locomotor, nonlocomotor and manipulative skill progressions relevant to a personal level of physical activity fitness and competence. Some activities will be held outdoors and there will be swim related units. Each class is taught by a certified elementary Physical Education teacher.

*Participants must be registered one week prior to session start date.

*Program must have 6 participants or the session will be cancelled.
